It's 2017, and it seems like every year there's a new trend out on health and weight-loss. I often have wellness clients say to me,
"I just want you to give me a meal plan and workout program that will tell me EXACTLY what to buy, how to cook it, and which workout to do every single day - otherwise I just can't do it by myself."
And how easy I wish it was, for myself included!
But what's important for every single person to realize is that each body is different. We have:
- different genetics
- different medical histories
- different lifestyles and
- different chemical make-ups in our bodies
What works for me may not work for you. What worked for me last year may not work for me this year. That program your friend did and had so much success with - you may find that you're getting nowhere with it! You may get resentful of her success, frustrated with yourself, and believe you have something wrong with you that you can never lose weight.
I don't blame you. I've been there. I've been to the doctor begging for a diagnosis and a pill to fix it. Begging to have my thyroid increased because that's what it must be. I believed I had done everything I needed to do - I must be broken.
But this is what I've learned through my struggles... There is NO 15-minute traditional doctor visit that is going to tell us exactly what we need to do to "fix" our metabolism, lose weight, increase energy, and just feel better.
Don't get me wrong, there are some great tests to know about and decide for yourself if you need them. We can talk about those in a later post, but that's just it, we have to be our own investigators. We have to learn what we might have going on and get some ideas on how to test for it and how to treat it. We may not have gone to school for a decade to learn about medicine, but no doctor has spent a lifetime in our bodies. No doctor is going to be as invested in our health as we are. To put it simply -
"No one knows or cares about your body as much as you do."
Does that feel overwhelming and intimidating to have to explore and experiment with all the trends and topics out there on wellness? Sure! But the good news is that there are tons of great free resources out there to help you and people like me who have a story like yours want to share what did (and didn't) work for them.
So let's just start with some basics. I listed a few areas that are getting a lot of attention right now in 2017, and that I feel are some issues in my own health. From what I've learned, I can see where so many of us could be dealing with these things. Just see the words right now, and as I create the next few posts to go more into each one, I'll link those up so you can learn more about each one!
What's next? I'll create and link to posts that will explain each one of these topics in further detail, could it be something you're dealing with, and if so, what are some ideas on how to manage or reverse those issues!
Recognize any of the above? Please share your experience or what you know so far!
